Abandoned Places – Tumbleweed Ranch

Me - Shooting Profile
One of the things that disturbs me about many of the recent abandonments in area is the rapid speed in which many of these houses are pillaged and often burned. In the Antelope Valley (north of Los Angeles) there’s a rumor that developer are hiring “crash crews” to systematically salvage and trash recently evicted properties is the house is in the path of potential housing developments.. While I can’t offer proof, far too many houses in this area show signs of arson with weeks or months of being cleared. This house was no exception inside, though the fire was caught very early.

The living room showed smoke damage from a fire that had been set in the entryway.

In the two previous pictures the (hardwood) door frames and doors were missing. In fact, none of the rooms in the house still had actual door frames or doors at all.

Unfortunately the boarded windows and remains of gross wall paints, made for difficult flash photography (too much washout on short focal length shots).

As we headed out, I grabbed two interior shots of the two car garage.

Perhaps the most disturbing thing about the house was what we noticed on the way out. – an indigent care medical missed appointment reminder. I blanked out the identifying marks, numbers and names out of privacy concerns

Kitchenware and IV needles

Lot’s of needles

A needle and a 9mm bullet

Insulin needles, by the score, lay near a tree close to where we parked. All unused...

Heading out..

Great pics and look at those mountains. I would love to wake up to that sight.

The snow and such is a rare sight out here. The view is spectacular though.

discarded needles (used or not) always make me so itchy. that's an alarming collection of stuff.
that fireplace is an atrocity.
love the architecture of the outside of the house and that view is pretty amazing.
wonderful set!

That fireplace reminded me of something out of a Disney set. It was unnaturally bright and cheerful compared to the rest of the house. The house had such a 'close' feeling to it. The rooms were small in comparision to how large and heavily built the house was.

These trips are always utter adventures because I never know what we're going to find and where. Would you ever like to accompany on one with us?
